Description

Join your peers from across the state in a one-day conference designed to share perspectives, best-practices, and new opportunities supporting how stakeholders are engaged in clinical research: Our patients, their families, our communities, and our clinical providers, and research team members.

Hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University's C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research, with participation from:

Keynote Speaker:
T.J. Sharpe is a stage 4 melanoma patient who shares his journey through cancer in the Patient #1 blog on Philly.com. Diagnosed in August 2012 with melanoma tumors in multiple organs - four weeks after his second child was born, - Sharpe has undergone six surgeries and four immunotherapy treatments across two clinical trials. He is a writer, keynote speaker, and consultant to the biopharma and clinical research industries. Through all of his engagements, he brings a message of hope from the perspective of a patient who is on the road toward overcoming melanoma's long odds. A South Jersey native, T.J. lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with his wife Jennifer and two young children, Josie and Tommy.

Parking & Transportation Options:
Hilton Richmond Downtown: Valet parking ONLY, reduced rate for overnight guests and attendees of the conference - $15.00.

Poster Session & Competition:
Poster abstracts may be submitted to one of two categories. Ten posters for each category will be selected for presentation and judging:

1. Clinical Research Best Practices/Quality Improvement/Process Innovations: Submissions may report quality improvement, innovations, best practices, or process efficiencies for clinical research
2. Clinical Science Research: Submissions may report a clinical research study or project, systematic review of a clinical research problem, or case of integration of clinical research with clinical care

Competition Prize: $500.00 to the primary author for best poster in each category
Submission deadline: Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11:59 PM, Eastern Daylight Time. All primary authors will be notified via email of poster selection for presentation at the conference by Friday, March 8, 2019.

Submission Guidelines & Competition Rules:

1. Submission information must be complete (name, email, phone number, mailing address). Submissions may be returned if missing information.
2. One poster entry per primary author per category
3. A poster category must be identified (Clinical Research Best Practices or Clinical Science Research) with each submission
4. The poster submission description/abstract must be in English and not exceed 250 words
5. Provide each author's full name, (primary author first), each author's degree(s)/certifications, and each author's affiliation (department, institution, city and state
6. Poster submission descriptions/abstracts will be blinded and reviewed by a panel of judges. Each category of the competition will be judged separately. Instructions for posters will be provided upon notification of selection.
7. Poster presenters must be in attendance to be considered for the competition and prize.
8. Judging will take place during the conference morning and lunch network breaks (Friday, April 12, 2019) and best posters in each category will be announced during the closing session. The primary author of the best poster in each category will receive a $500.00 prize.

Cancellation, Transfer & Refund Policies
In the unlikely event that the conference is canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, the university will fully refund registration fees, but cannot be held responsible for any other expenses, including change or cancellation charges to include but not limited to airlines, hotels, travel agencies, or other organizations.
Conference registrations may be transferred to a different person if requested in writing via email at ocpe@vcu.edu by April 5, 2019. No refunds will be given.
