Description
Cleanroom Fundamentals introduces participants to cleanroom environments, contamination control, safety culture, and foundational fabrication workflows. Through a blend of instructor-led instruction, simulations, and supervised lab experiences, participants develop procedural familiarity and safe tool interaction skills. Demonstrations and structured training emphasize cleanroom behavior and workflows within real-world industry contexts. Successful completion of the course results in a digital badge recognizing competency in cleanroom fundamentals.
Course Prerequisite
The Lab Access Safety Training course is an asynchronous prerequisite required for entry into the course. This training ensures participants complete all institutional, chemical, and laboratory safety requirements necessary for supervised cleanroom access in compliance with VCU Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards. The training typically requires approximately 5–7 hours to complete.
After a learner registers for the course, an email with instructions for accessing and completing this training will be sent to the email address provided.
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain cleanroom classifications, contamination sources, and contamination control strategies.
- Demonstrate proper cleanroom entry procedures, gowning techniques, and appropriate cleanroom behavior.
- Describe standard cleanroom workflows, safety culture, and operational expectations within controlled environments.
- Apply cleanroom procedures during simulated tool training and instructor-led demonstrations.
- Perform supervised cleanroom tasks, demonstrating safe tool interaction and adherence to foundational workflows.
Digital Badge:
Participants who successfully complete this course will have the opportunity to earn a digital badge that can be shared on LinkedIn and other professional platforms. Earning the badge requires full attendance, active participation, and successful completion of all required training components, including hands-on work in a VCU cleanroom lab, demonstrating foundational knowledge of cleanroom protocols, safety procedures, and contamination control.
