Description

The Cleanroom Training Program is designed to prepare participants for entry-level cleanroom and semiconductor fabrication roles through a blend of safety preparation, simulation-based learning, and supervised hands-on laboratory experience.

This in-person program intentionally integrates early and repeated cleanroom lab access to reinforce procedural confidence, tool familiarity, and industry-aligned practices while maintaining cost efficiency and high-quality experiential learning.

This program is suitable for VCU students and external learners seeking practical cleanroom exposure and serves as a foundation for future industry-aligned specialization pathways.

Program Components
  1. Asynchronous Lab Access Safety Training Prerequisite Course
  2. Cleanroom Fundamentals
  3. Applied Cleanroom Operations

All participants must successfully complete Cleanroom Fundamentals to be eligible for Applied Cleanroom Operations.

Learners who complete the Lab Access Safety Training and both required courses are awarded a digital badge, validating comprehensive foundational and applied cleanroom training.

Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the Cleanroom Training, participants will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate compliance with institutional and industry-standard cleanroom safety and contamination control requirements.
  2. Explain cleanroom classifications, workflows, and operational expectations within semiconductor and fabrication environments.
  3. Apply cleanroom protocols and tool-handling procedures in supervised laboratory settings.
  4. Execute foundational fabrication processes as part of a structured cleanroom workflow.
  5. Communicate awareness of career pathways and expectations for entry-level cleanroom technician roles.

Digital Badge:
Participants who successfully complete this program will have the opportunity to earn a digital badge for each course that can be shared on LinkedIn and other professional platforms. Earning the badges requires full attendance, active participation, and successful completion of all required training components, including hands-on work in a VCU cleanroom lab, demonstrating applied competency in cleanroom operations and semiconductor fabrication processes.

Notes

Important Course Requirements

Required Safety Training (All Participants)
Dates: June 1–13, 2026

Participants must complete 5–7 hours of required online safety training (BioRaft setup and lab safety modules) prior to the course start date. This training is required for all participants enrolled in Cleanroom Fundamentals and Applied Cleanroom Operations.

After a learner registers for the course, an email with instructions for accessing and completing this training will be sent to the email address provided.

All required lab hours must be completed within the designated lab access window for each course. Participants are responsible for scheduling and completing their required hours within the allotted timeframe.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:
You may cancel your registration up until 14 days prior to the course start date, and receive a full refund minus any credit card processing fees. Cancellations must be received via email at ocpe@vcu.edu
In cases of emergency or extenuating circumstances (e.g., medical emergencies, family emergencies), participants may be eligible for a partial refund regardless of the timing. Documentation may be required.
In the unlikely event that this program is cancelled or postponed due to insufficient enrollments or unforeseen circumstances, the university will fully refund registration fees, but cannot be held responsible for any other expenses, including change or cancellation charges to include but not limited to airlines, hotels, travel agencies, or other organizations.
